Underground Colony (Creative Tuesdays)

Creative Tuesdays has prompted us to dig deep for this week's prompt.  The theme, or I should say themes, are either Underground or Under Water.  I've only taken part the past few weeks, but so far, all those participants linking up have provided some very fascinating and impressive work.  So click on over, check out everything that's on display and if you'd like to participate, take a read through the guidelines and link your piece up.

I chose the Underground theme.

    1. hahaha, yeah me too, but unfortunately I got this idea as the ants have come back at the end of the driveway near the street, it's like every other year, perhaps that's how long the chemicals work for, who knows. Thanks, glad you liked it, and please, lets keep them underground

  2. We always get a rather extensive ant tunnel forming in one of the flowerbeds every year. If you sit and watch, they are fascinating. But then you start to get a tickle up your spine! haha. Love this...it reminds me of those ant houses you can buy in a glass box where you can see a cross section of their underground colonies!

Very cool art, Fred! You even got the queen in there!

    1. just gives me a chill thinking of those things crawling on me. Yeah, I had one of those when I was a kid, and no it never broke lol But of course, what would a colony be with out a queen. Glad you enjoyed the piece, thanks.

  4. Very cool piece, Fred. I used to love watching ants as a child but never owned an ant farm kit. I did capture and keep ants in a jar of sweet leaves. the middle with loops resemble enso zen loops, I thought. Whole cities and structures beneath one's feet, does make one wonder what kind of mazes they build down there. Your different colored ants make me wonder what kind of different roles they might have in this nest. :)

  5. I'd forgotten just how intricate ants nests are underneath us. Fabulous picture Fred, incorporating real ants with drawn burrows.

  7. Wow Fred, this is just so crazy amazing. I love your interpretation here and was hoping someone woudl tackle the underground theme. I even thought of an ant colony but couldn't figure out how to make it compelling which you've certainly done here. I like how you've done the bedrock too and especially the above ground building trees and ladybugs, etc. Really, one coudl look at this quite a long time and see new things upon further review. must have taken you AGES! TY Fred. Very cool.
